Live Medaka Shipped to New Jersey

Written by Chris, the breeder at Firefly Medaka in Raleigh, NC

Yes, I ship live Japanese rice fish to New Jersey. Boxes leave Raleigh, North Carolina on Mondays by UPS 2nd Day Air, so a Monday box is normally due Wednesday. I have no shop or pickup in New Jersey. Firefly fish have already landed in New Jersey.

New Jersey weather and your fish

New Jersey has humid summers and winters that vary from the mild shore to colder northern hills.

Bergen County and the Pine Barrens have quite different water and weather, and acidic well water is common in the south of the state. Shore keepers should also place tubs out of reach of storm flooding and salt spray.

When to order

Spring and fall are usually gentlest. Heat waves and ice can each push a box back.

Keeping medaka here

Roughly USDA hardiness zones 6 to 8. A deep tub can often stay out all year with summer shade. A 10-gallon or larger indoor tank also works, no heater needed. More in my winter guide.

Plants for New Jersey

Nothing in my plant shop is on my restricted list for New Jersey today.

Rates, holds, and the live arrival guarantee are on my shipping page. Never release fish or plants into local water, and ask your state wildlife agency about local rules.
