Live Medaka Shipped to Arkansas

Written by Chris, the breeder at Firefly Medaka in Raleigh, NC

Yes, I ship live Japanese rice fish to Arkansas. Boxes leave Raleigh, North Carolina on Mondays by UPS 2nd Day Air, so a Monday box is normally due Wednesday. I have no shop or pickup in Arkansas.

Arkansas weather and your fish

Arkansas swings between hot, sticky summers and ice storms that can stall a delivery truck. The Ozarks run cooler than the Delta, so plan around your own corner of the state.

Fayetteville and the hills get the freezes, while Little Rock and Pine Bluff lean hot and muggy. Keep a tub clear of leaf drop from the big hardwoods, because a load of rotting leaves is a common fall water problem.

When to order

Spring and fall are usually gentlest. Heat waves and ice can each push a box back.

Keeping medaka here

Roughly USDA hardiness zones 6 to 8. A deep tub can often stay out all year with summer shade. A 10-gallon or larger indoor tank also works, no heater needed. More in my winter guide.

Plants for Arkansas

Nothing in my plant shop is on my restricted list for Arkansas today.

Rates, holds, and the live arrival guarantee are on my shipping page. Never release fish or plants into local water, and ask your state wildlife agency about local rules.
