Live Medaka Shipped to North Carolina

Written by Chris, the breeder at Firefly Medaka in Raleigh, NC

Yes, I ship live Japanese rice fish to North Carolina. Boxes leave Raleigh, North Carolina on Mondays by UPS 2nd Day Air, so a Monday box is normally due Wednesday. I have no shop or pickup in North Carolina. Firefly fish have already landed in North Carolina.

North Carolina weather and your fish

North Carolina is home for me, so I know this weather firsthand. Mountain towns get real winter, while the coast deals with hurricane season.

I ship from Raleigh, but there is no pickup or shop, and yours rides with UPS like everyone else's. Boone and Asheville winters ask for much more depth than Wilmington's, and the Piedmont sits in between with hot summers.

When to order

Spring and fall are usually gentlest. Heat waves and ice can each push a box back.

Keeping medaka here

Roughly USDA hardiness zones 5 to 9. A deep tub can often stay out all year with summer shade. A 10-gallon or larger indoor tank also works, no heater needed. More in my winter guide.

Plants for North Carolina

Nothing in my plant shop is on my restricted list for North Carolina today.

Rates, holds, and the live arrival guarantee are on my shipping page. Never release fish or plants into local water, and ask your state wildlife agency about local rules.
