1¢ Classroom Hatch Kit (10+ Fertilized Medaka Eggs)

$0.01

One cent, plus $4.99 shipping. Five dollars all together, and that is the whole price. I want medaka hatching in classrooms, so the kit itself costs a single penny. You get at least 10 fertilized medaka eggs from my outdoor lines, checked before packing so every egg I count is a viable one. Which varieties you get is my choice and depends on what is laying that week. Kids enjoy variety, so I mix it up as best I can. The Hatch Journal, my day-by-day observation guide written for students, is a free download on the Medaka in the Classroom page, whether you order a kit or not.

Medaka eggs are transparent, so over roughly ten days to two weeks at classroom temperature your class watches eyes appear, a heart start beating, and fry wriggle free, the same window that made this species a famous laboratory animal. Your room supplies a shallow container, dechlorinated water, and a warm windowsill; the Hatch Journal covers the rest.

The honor system: at checkout, enter your school or district email so I know the kit is headed to a classroom. No forms, no waiting, I trust teachers. One kit per classroom, please.

Two rules come with every kit. Hatched fish are never released into any natural waterway, ever; plan for them to stay as class pets or go home with families. And kits ship on Mondays once eggs are available, so have the front office expecting the envelope.

Right now I am between egg collections, so kits are a pre-order. Order now and I will ship yours when eggs are back in season, expected Spring 2027, on a Monday so it arrives during the school week. Until then, your order simply waits in line. Questions or planning help any time: chris@fireflymedaka.com reaches the breeder directly.
