Because every medaka is the same peaceful species, mixed groups school and live together without conflict, they'll simply interbreed over time, which is part of the fun in a display pond.

A collection is my most popular starting point for a new patio tub or mini pond: one order gives you an instant, varied group at a better price than buying the same fish individually. Add a few snails as a cleanup crew and a handful of floating plants (free with every fish or snail order) and you have a balanced setup.
