Breeder's Choice Collection
The Breeder's Choice Collection is five healthy Japanese rice fish, and no two are exactly the same, though some may be similar. One box might hold a near-miss Miyuki whose shine stops halfway down the back, a tricolor whose patches landed somewhere no standard describes, an orange fish running deeper than its line calls for, or a look I simply do not have a name for. True line fish can land in the box as well, when the pots have extras worth sharing, though no specific line is ever promised. Instead of a matched set, you get five individuals.
Here is why these fish exist. A named line is a narrow target: generations of selection stacking particular color and shine traits until they breed mostly true. But every spawn reshuffles that deck, and plenty of fry come up healthy, vigorous, and beautiful while landing just off the bullseye, shine a little short, a patch out of place, a color between two names. A big hatchery calls those culls. My take is that all of my fish have value, no matter the color, and a fish that missed a label deserves better than a bucket. This collection is that belief with a price tag.
One thing worth saying plainly: every fish in this collection is perfectly healthy, and none of them are here over any physical concern. They are kept in the same planted setups as everything else I ship, fed the same food, and held to the same health standard. The only thing I am not promising is a uniform look.
And for a display pond, that is exactly the point. A matched set reads as one repeating fish; a mixed group catches the light differently from every angle, you can tell your fish apart and watch individuals instead of a pattern, and you end up with combinations I could not reproduce on purpose if I tried. This is the tank I most enjoy watching, and I actually find these the most interesting fish I raise. Some of them come out genuinely stunning!
Every box is a different mix, so this is the one to pick if you want variety and a tank that keeps surprising you. If you have your heart set on one specific color, one of my named lines is the better fit.
