Dwarf Water Lettuce
Dwarf Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) forms tidy rosettes of soft, ribbed leaves with long feathery roots, some of the best fry cover you can float. It is a classic medaka companion, thriving in the same calm, sunny water my fish love.
It shades the surface, drinks up nitrate and ammonia, and its dense root curtain is where baby medaka hide and graze. In a sunny tub it grows quickly through the warm season.
Every live fish order already ships with a free assortment of floating plants. This listing is for when you want more, or this plant specifically, on its own or added to any order.
The second photo is from my own deck: one rosette hauled itself onto a rock and kept right on growing above the waterline, while its neighbor floats along beside it. That is how tough this plant is.
You'll receive a healthy starter portion of at least 10 plants. Kept in decent light, floating plants multiply fast, so that starter portion fills in a surface quickly, the happier they are, the faster they spread.
