OROCHI Medaka Japanese Rice Fish
Orochi Medaka are among the most recognizable and sought-after Japanese Rice Fish varieties, prized for their rich, velvety black coloration. In a planted tub they are hard to look away from. Expect to lean over the rim more than you planned. Their striking appearance creates beautiful contrast against green floating plants, light-colored substrate, and natural pond environments, making them a standout addition to aquariums, patio tubs, and outdoor ponds alike.
At Firefly Medaka, my Orochi breeding program focuses on producing fish with deep, uniform black coloration while maintaining the hardiness, activity, and overall health that make medaka such rewarding fish to keep. Every generation is carefully selected as I continually work toward healthier, hardier, and more beautiful fish.
Every fish I ship is hand-picked and health-checked by me in North Carolina, conditioned before it leaves, and backed by my live arrival guarantee. Healthy fish settle in faster, whether they are headed for an aquarium, a patio tub, or an outdoor pond.
